Day 1
Arrive at Nedumbasserry airport at Cochin in the morning. You will be received at the airport and then conveyed by car to one of the hotels at Ernakulam or Fort Cochin. Cochin is one of the fastest growing metropolises in India with projects like International transshipment terminal, LNG terminal, Marina and internet city on the anvil, (stated to be completed inside a couple of years), the city is on the threshold of a quantum leap in economic development.

You will take rest for some time at the hotel. In the afternoon your driver will take you to Fort Cochin, which was an obscure fishing village that became the first European township in India. This town was shaped by the Portugese, Dutch and then by the British rules. The first European sailor Vasco De Gama who came to India in 1498, died here and was buried at the St. Francis church.

You will visit this church. Then you might like to visit the Jewish Synagogue in Jew Town which was built in the 16th century. It has a clock tower, Hebrew inscriptions on stone slabs and Old Testament scrolls. It would be wonderful to see the Synagogue. Another place to visit is the Dutch Palace which was built in 1557 by the Portugese and presented to the King of Cochin. Also you will enjoy watching the Chinese nets in action at the beach where you can even enjoy fried fish fresh from the nets.

Now let’s do some shopping at the local markets and then drive along the marine drive and Goshree bridges enjoying the “Queen of Arabian Sea” (as Cochin is called). Now let’s call it a day. We take you back to the hotel.  Next>>
